Battery Electric - Urban Concept
The vehicle that we sent to London 2 years in a row needs to be overhauled. Even though we have been successful with our current system, we must update different systems to stay ahead of our competition and improve our efficiency and speed. While we have the vehicles body the way that we want it, areas that we MUST improve/change are:
New BRUSHED electric motor
Redesign motor controller
Transmission
Redesign entry door
Upgrade battery system
Upgrade safety harness
Upgrade lighting system
Redesign Motor Controller
The most difficult task that this club encounters is reverse engineering a motor controller. This devise controls the electric motor that powers the vehicle. Students are currently examining working systems and identifying essential components that need to be present in their new design.
Drive Train
Students need to design a system that transfers the power from the motor to the drive wheels. This systems needs to be efficient and reliable.
Body Design
Even though this vehicle drives at a maximum speed of 30mph, aerodynamics plays a huge role in the overall performance. Students have to design an aerodynamic body that is both stylish and has workability features, allowing for quick fixes and on the fly modifications.
